How many players can join?
Buzzinga Pro does not limit how many players can join a game. Whether you have 20, 100, or several hundred attendees, everyone can join from their own device.
For more than about 10 players, however, we recommend using teams. This is not a technical requirement—it usually creates a better experience for the group.
Choose individual or team play
Every attendee can play individually with their own buzzer and score. With a large group, though, there is so much competition to buzz in that some players may never answer a clue or score any points.
Teams give everyone a shared result to care about. Players can still join and buzz from their own phones, but the points they earn accumulate toward their team’s score. Even someone who never buzzes in successfully can follow their team’s progress and feel included in the game.
Individual play can still work well if your format calls for it. Just keep in mind that the more individual players you add, the harder it becomes for every person to participate directly.
Set up teams for a large event
Use Buzzinga’s team play when multiple people on each team will join and buzz from their own phones. Their points will accumulate toward the team’s shared score.
To create the teams:
- Open Manage Teams.
- Enter a name in New team name, then select Add team.
- Repeat for each team you want to create.
- After players join, drag them from Unassigned Players into their teams. You can also drag players from one team to another.
See Set up team play for more information about assigning players and choosing your team settings.
Then select the gear icon to open the Settings menu and review the Teams section. In particular, consider these settings:
- Auto Balance Teams: Assigns each new player to the team with the fewest players. This is especially helpful when a large audience joins at once.
- Allow Players to Change Teams: Lets players join, leave, or switch teams during the game. Leave this off if you want the host to control every assignment or want Auto Balance Teams to assign players without allowing them to move afterward.
If each group will share a single phone or buzzer, you do not need to create teams in Buzzinga. Have one person from each group join using the team name as their player name.
Use the host controller
For a large event, we recommend running the game with the host controller. Keep the main game board on the projector, television, or shared screen, then use the host controller from a separate device or private window.
This gives the audience a cleaner view without the host controls and other clutter, while the host still has everything needed to run the game.
Before the event
- Decide whether everyone will play individually or as part of a team.
- Review the team settings and turn on Auto Balance Teams if Buzzinga should assign players for you.
- Prepare simple instructions explaining how attendees should join and how teams will be assigned.
- Test the board, internet connection, display, and sound in the space you will use.
- Ask someone to help late arrivals or troubleshoot devices while the host keeps the game moving.
